The price, combined with the features made it seem like the perfect gift for my 10-year-old music and photo lover. After playing with it for a bit, I still liked it, but there are enough buttons that I actually had to read the owners manual to figure out how to navigate through it. However, after a quick tutorial, my boy was able to use both the camera and the music player fairly smoothly.Sadly, four days after Christmas, the screen has cracked, and while it still works, it's difficult to see. I know it's not the manufacturers fault that my boy managed to break it so quickly, but he is fairly good with electronics, so this tells me that it's not as durable as a more expensive player might be. Of course, it's not as expensive as the more expensive player either:) So I don't regret the purchase, but I would for sure put the silicone cover on it, and handle it gently. |

And just like its touchscreen big brother the E4, it features a 5-megapixel camera to let you shoot still photos or video.
4 GB Flash Memory, Expandable to 12 GB
The E5 features 4 gigabytes of on-board memory--enough room for over 2,300 songs, thousands of pictures, or 20 hours of video. If that's not enough room, you can pop in a MicroSD card and double it. You can even swap out different cards for an instant library change.
Versatile Media Playback
The E5 supports MP3 and WMA audio files, along with uncompressed WAV files, and OGG, FLAC, and APE files. On the video front, you get AVI, MP4, RM, RMVB, MP4, 3GP, and FLV video formats (or use the included software to convert other formats to a viewable file type). If you're using Windows, you can even use the included MediaImpression Downloader software to grab videos from YouTube and other websites with Flash streaming video, then view them on your player.
Built-in Still/Video Camera
Take pictures and record video with the built-in 5-megapixel camera, complete with special video effects such as black and white, negative, or sepia. When hooked up to a computer via USB, it can be used as a webcam. Furthermore, you can connect your player to your TV and use it to watch movies, view photos, or listen to music using the included RCA cables.
FM Tuner/Recorder
When you're in the mood for some live programming--your favorite morning show, the traffic report, evening news, or a few classic rock sets--flip on the FM radio. You also get the ability to record right off the radio, so you can save a song or piece for later reference/enjoyment.

The E5 also supports JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and TIF images, so you can enjoy or share a few on the road. E-books and other TXT files can also be displayed, complete with automatic scrolling and the ability to bookmark and recall specific pages.

A high-speed USB 2.0 connection ensures quick transfer of content to your player. You can also use the player as a Flash storage device--simply drag and drop files onto the player and access them anywhere. The E5 is compatible with Windows, Apple, and Linux machines.
